Bridal Show Advice

The Perfect Wedding Guide Bridal Show

This is one of the BEST TIMES of your life.  You are so excited about being engaged and all the upcoming planning of your wedding.  Chances are your wedding may be THE biggest event you ever plan.  We’re here to help with some advice on attending Bridal Shows.

Bridal Shows are a very helpful tool in planning your wedding.  They familiarize you with many different services and vendors.  You’ll be able to see a wide range of talent and service menus.

Here are some tips that we suggest when attending shows.

1.  Get your discount tickets prior to the show.

2. Arrive early.  It’s always best to be one of the very first there.  The vendors are fresh, there should be several giveaways and there’s lots of time to ask questions.

3.  Eat something healthy prior to arriving.  You’ll be sampling wedding cake, hors d oeuvres and favors all day. Who can resist wedding cake?????

4. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and clothing.  This excursion could take several hours.  Make sure you feel great and are able to move easily amongst the different areas the venue may provide. Take a bottled water.  You’ll be glad you did.

5. Don’t be afraid to ask questions.  Vendors are prepared to answer your many questions and help you.  Don’t be afraid to ask if there are any “show specials” or coupons to use too.

6. Take the groom, your mom and/or your maid of honor too.  This is a fun time and it will be valuable to share opinions.

6.  Take a close look at the vendors booths and their preparations.  This is a detailed industry and you’ll want to work with individuals that really know how to make details work and give a great presentation

7. Print out a sheet of return address labels for drawings.  This will eliminate a lot of sign up time. There will be drawings and sign ups.  You’ll be able to breeze through them.

8. Bring a pad to take notes and a big bag for your goodies, you’ll be glad you did.

9. Don’t set a time limit on the day.

10.  Enjoy this experience and have FUN!

If you have any questions or worries, please contact us.  We are always happy to hear from you.

Just Announced: Color of the Year 2014

Pantone has just announced the color of the year for 2014. We have anxiously been awaiting this announcement.  Each year, it is so much fun to see what the color will be.  This year it is a hue of purple and we love it!!! (of course)

Did you know that purple is considered a neutral?  It has warm AND cool tones which make it a very compatible color partner.  The new color is soft, but yet powerful enough to stand alone.  What colors will you pair it with?  Make sure to let us know.

Pantone Reveals Color of the Year for 2014: PANTONE 18-3224 Radiant Orchid

“While the 2013 color of the year, PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald, served as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity, Radiant Orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “An invitation to innovation, Radiant Orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today’s society.

“An enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm.”

For more than a decade, Pantone’s Color of the Year has influenced product development and purchasing decisions in multiple industries, including fashion, home and industrial design, as well as product packaging and graphic design. Past colors include:

Sarah + Johnny: Colorado Destination Wedding

We love being involved in destination weddings.  This summer we had the privilege of helping Sarah + Johnny with the details for their Colorado Wedding.  What fun we had!  Better yet, they were married during a 7 hour pocket of great weather before the terrible storm in Colorado.  We are so thankful for them and that their wedding was a beautiful time.  We love sharing this picture with you and there will be more to come.

Dress Me in Plum Pretty Sugar

As ladies we understand the prep time that goes into preparing for a big day. And I’m not talking about the bride- I’m talking about the bridesmaids. Even though the day is all about the bride, and rightfully so, we bridesmaids also have to look our best. The Plum Pretty Sugar bridesmaid’s robes are adorable and will make a great gift from the bride to her best ladies. Plum Pretty Sugar offers robe sets, making it easy to select a style for all bridesmaids.

Having the bridesmaids dressed alike during the prep time makes for adorable pictures. It also allows the bride to be able to stand out in her own special robe. One great thing about the Plum Pretty Sugar robes is the style. These robes can be worn again and again; the style doesn’t limit itself to wearing it for just one day. Jordan+Clark

Did you ever wish you were brave enough to go pursue your dream? Maybe a dream that wouldn’t be easy and others claimed was not attainable? Did you ever have a best friend that shared the same dream and wanted more for you than they did for themselves?

This is Jordan+Clark. Two dreamers that had fallen in love, long before they knew it, went throughout high school together, off to college- forget college, and off to NYC! Jordan+ Clark are dreamers and what is great is that they live their dreams and share them with those that they love. Jordan + Clark are brave creative and willing to sacrifice for a dream, a dream to work and succeed. They did and they have.

Jordan+ Clark met during the summer of their 8th grade year.  Jordan’s cousin introduced them, they became friends and Jordan+Clark developed a BIG crush.  A crush that was bigger than church camp, and middle school days. Their crush led to them to dating throughout high school.  Little did Jordan know the second boy she ever kissed would be her husband.

After high school they went on to Purdue University, Lafayette, IN.  Jordan was a communications major and Clark is a construction management major, completing his degree. Jordan+Clark had BIG dreams to live in the Big Apple. They wanted to give it a whirl in NYC and they did.  It wasn’t easy in NYC. Remember, dreams never are. Prices were high, living conditions were small and the two had to struggle. They knew what they wanted, survived and succeeded.

The hills of Indiana kept calling them home and soon they were back at Purdue to complete their degrees and prepare for the biggest day of their lives; their wedding.

Their wedding couldn’t be the norm. That wasn’t them. It had to be beautiful, romantic and memorable like this couple. We chose Laurel Hall for its history, beauty and magic. What a romantic setting what a great story. Jordan wanted all the femininity of lace and flowers plus candles. She loved sheer pinks and pearls. We loved her decision and made sure everything was just as she wanted. An elegant vintage wedding with all of the timeless, classic details. Jordan’s dress was breathtaking and she looked gorgeous in it.  It was designed by Pronovias.  Clark’s tuxedo with black bow tie made for an elegant affair. Guests loved the rich woods, stained and leaded glass, plus private gardens of the estate. We loved the intimacy, character and romance of the day.

Funny, how things all happen at once.  Jordan could have graduated the day of her wedding and walked for her diploma.  She walked for an MRS instead and got the BA in the mail. What a joyous occasion.  Two people who had been in love forever were now walking down the aisle to happily ever after.

Fashion First: The Brigitte Bardot Bag

Fashion Designer Bag we love

Always trying to be “fashion forward”, we must tell you about Lancel creating the Brigitte Bardot Bag.  For those of you who do not know this fashion and beauty icon, you must!  Bardot was a French naturelle beauty and nonconformist that had Hollywood in the palm of her hand during the early 60’s. She was a legend in beauty and fashion, so we just loved discovering the Lancel designer BB Bag they have created in honour of her.

Lancel describes Bardot as “anti-conventional, archi-natural, too beautiful”  and we agree.  The tousled blonde remains the “absolute symbol of French Legerete”.  All of the fashions she launched are today’s more than ever; skinny, ankle length jeans and ballet “flatties” slippers-the jeans and shoes we all adore today!

We love that this nonconformist went out “on the edge” with her wedding dress too.  She was the FIRST to dare wear a plunging neckline, wasp waist and cotton  pink gingham, yes gingham, dress on her wedding day.  Needless to say, it made the cover of every fashion magazine.

Oh, Brigitte, thank you for making fashion daring, fun and timeless.  Thank you for allowing us to have sexy, tousled locks and making a blonde craze that never stopped.  Thank you for inventing the “smoky eye” with eyeliner extended into a defined almond shape and heavy lashes; something we have imitated, but never accomplished like you. Thank you for making St. Tropez a place we could read about, dream about and travel to. But most of all thank you for being yourself plus making your Hollywood era so much fun (47 films and 80 songs) .

The Lancel design team, has made your new bag just as we should expect.  The signature BB monogrammed charms, the satchel style (lined in no other than pink gingham) and the variety of color to make it exactly whatever we dare it to be.  Just like you; unexpected, dazzling and unforgettable!

PS Your handbag is beautiful and we would go out on a limb and pick the pink one.

Anthropologie’s New Bridal Salon: BHLDN

BLHDN

Kim and I had the opportunity to visit Anthropolgie’s new bridal store, BLHDN in Chicago this week. BLHDN pronounced Beholden, means “to keep” in dutch. The store itself was stunning and set a very classy, yet unique image.  It is only the second location in the entire nation.

Kim King Smith and I really enjoyed seeing all of the stylish, very detailed gowns they had. There were gowns ranging from $600- $6000 in all different styles, including bridal and reception seperates which were gorgeous as well.  For those Anthropolgie fans out there, you will fall in love with all they have to offer. Not only do they have unique bridal gowns but also hair accessories, jewelry, shoes, gifts, and bowties.  You’ll even want to pack a few of their things for may want for your honeymoon, including lingerie.  If you’re in the Windy City any time soon, make sure to put BLHDN on your list of places to visit! You wont regret it! It’s on our list!

Advice and Wedding Dress Code: What Do I Wear to the Wedding?

The big question “What do I wear to a wedding?”

You want to look your best for the occasion yet not steal all of the bride’s glory.  First and foremost think about where the wedding is. Is it outside, inside, at a church, outdoors, on the beach or a country club? Will you be cold or warm?

For the Ladies

Depending upon what style of wedding, here are some
great suggestions.

If the wedding is during the day and informal, a short dress is perfectly acceptable. If in the evening a cute cocktail dress will be comfortable and allow you to dance the night away.

The little black dress is always a perfect selection. Don’t be afraid to add a little more glam or accessorize it.

If the wedding is formal or black-tie a long gown or dressy cocktail dress is perfect.

For an outdoor affair, a dressy sundress can be a great choice.

For the Gentlemen

Men, your wardrobe is very important too. Just like the ladies, depending on the location and time of year different outfits are considered appropriate.

In the summertime a light colored suit made of linen or seersucker not only looks sharp but is also light and comfortable.

During winter, wool suits, sweaters underneath blazers, and navy and charcoal are all very dressy and will impress guests.

Bow ties always add some fun to the wardrobe and are one of our favorites.

For informal weddings, a shirt, tie, dress pants and vests are acceptable; however, a blazer is also a good choice.

If you feel too dressed up you can easily remove the blazer.

Remember, weddings are the Bride and Groom’s  special day. They worked very hard and invested
a lot of time to make it just right! Be considerate in what you select to wear
and when in doubt, always take it up a step.

Quick tips:

Don’t wear white.

Save black for the evening.

No need to worry about coordinating your outfit with that of the colors of the wedding.

If the invitation says, Wear your best black”, be prepared to know it is a more formal occasion.

If the invitation says “black tie” be prepared to wear evening gowns, very dressy cocktail dresses and possibly a tux.

Lace is the Look

The runway report is in and lace is the new look! Its intricate beauty has captivated queens and starlets since Queen Victoria, and today it

It is ultrafeminine, classic, and romantic. Interested in adding a one of a kind detail to your dress? Lace capelets have the look of old Hollywood glam and can be wornover a lace gown. This little added coverage over a strapless gown is a greatvintage or two-in-one look, especially if you are on a budget! Lace is atimeless material, and some go so far as to makelace the theme of their decor. Check out some of these lace accents!
